The wines database
BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE SYSTEM’S FUNCTIONING

The Vinoracolo database currently includes 31.961 different wine- labels  and 10.971 producers.

The essential information from each wine label has been collected directly by wine critics, producer’s websites or using the internet: it is unlikely that only one of these sources contains them all. This certainly is an added value to our Database. The information includes:

The name of the wine as it appears on the label, indispensable to check the wine you are looking for. Since our database includes the wines’ full names, we recommend that you enter just one word or the full name to find what you are looking for.

The wine type: select one from the dropdown list  using italian words(red-Rosso, white-Bianco, sweet-Dolce, sparkling-Spumante, rosé-rosato, prosecco are the main options).

The alcohol content: this information, is one most required by consumers is not easy to collect. When searching through our our database you rarely may receive ND (not available degree [Degree=percentage of alcohol]).In any case it has been possible to find this information on many Internet sites, because many producers don't indicate it.

The year: this refers to the year that the critics’ gave their evaluation, but if it’s a negative one, then it refers to the year of wine production

The grape variety: you will receive only one result if it’s a single grape variety, otherwise all the others used in the vinification.

Wine producer

The name of the Italian Region: where the wine is produced.

Price: collecting this kind of information has been the most challenging phase in building our database, due to the fact that the majority of producers do not indicate the prices on their websites and many guide include categories only. So a very patient and accurate search on the Internet has been necessary, but the good news is that we have found an accurate price for each of the wines included in our database. Here you can find the latest price available which you can then be use as a basis to control or negotiate the purchase of wine.

Number of Heralds: The greater the number of wine critics consulted and the higher is their assessment, the greater the number of Heralds earned by each wine. In this way the evaluation of a wine is independent from the single source of judgment. It is therefore a great benefit to the consumer. So far we have used the opinions from 29 different sources, both Italian and foreign, chosen from among those which are committed in the search for good wines at affordable prices: magazines, guides, blogs, consumer associations, publications and books, individual experts, etc.…

Scores and evaluations

The score value achieved by each wine is calculated by the computer using the number of experts and their expressed judgment’s levels: the Heralds have the task of reporting the various levels of scores achieved. Wines we recommend here are not chosen due to the result of tasting or testing, but from the targeted analysis of the great mass of circulating information about them.

Wines rated with 1, 2, or 3 Heralds:

In the majority of cases, these wines have obtained ratings from discrete to excellent by one wine critic only. Naturally, it is not excludable that this expert has found a really good wine, especially when it comes to unknown ones. If assessments come from more sources, the lowest score will be also the result of negative judgments; so use caution before buying in this category and focus on vintage years.

Wines rated with 4, 5 or 6 Heralds:

This ranking is awarded to wines which have been positively evaluated by more than one wine critic, usually two. In case of more sources involved, it might be that one of them has given a negative review but in a minority among the other ones. Anyway, you can safely buy them, as long as they do not cost too much.

Wines rated with 7 Heralds

These are the best wines according to most critics. The chance to repent for their purchase is therefore really very low.

Wines rated with 7 Heralds Gold
Some wines get much higher scores than the average of those included in the 7 Heralds category:
Olimpo
In Olimpo we will find wines that reach out of scale scores
Divini
here are those very few wines that reach almost unanimity of the judgments, all with very high values

Among 7 Araldi Gold, Olimpo and Divini there are the well-known and also very expensive wines, as can be expected if the calculations are not wrong.
But - be careful! - you could also find much cheaper wines than if they play it with them.

Attention (Warning)

These wines are almost always low cost, stumbled on negative judgments given even for a vintage year. Use extreme caution if you want to buy them!
